During the 1942 ‘Quit India’ movement, a parallel government i.e. Prati-Sarkar was established against British rule in the Satara and Sangli regions under the leadership of prominent figures such as Krantisinh Nana Patil, Nagnathanna Nayakwadi, Babuji Patankar, G. D. Bapu Lad, Barde Guruji, and Appasaheb Lad. During the tenure of this parallel government, many heroes—including Martyr Kisan Ahir, Martyr Nanaksing from Punjab, Annasaheb Patravale, Martyr Vishnu Barpate, and Ravishankar Pandya—sacrificed their lives for the country. In the book Sangli Jilhyatil SwatantryaSainikanchya ShouryaKatha i.e. Tales of Valor of Freedom Fighters from Sangli District, author Shivaji Mhaske has endeavored to preserve this history of sacrifice and martyrdom.
