Azizan was an ordinary dancer. She gave up her dancing and joined the revolution of 1857 in Kanpur. She became a follower of Nanasaheb Peshwa and fought valiantly against the British and she gave her life for the country. At that time, she was only 25 years old. Kaka Vidhate, the author of the novel Agnirekha 1857, depicts her life at that time.

अजिजान ही एक सामान्य नर्तकी होती. नृत्यगायनाचा आपला व्यवसाय टाकून कानपूरच्या १८५७च्या क्रांतीत ती सहभागी झाली. नानासाहेब पेशव्यांची अनुयायी बनून ब्रिटिशांशी शौर्याने लढली आणि देशासाठी तिने आपले प्राण दिले. यावेळी तीच वय अवघ २५ वर्षाचं होत. तिचं जीवन त्यावेळचा काळ, ब्रिटिशांचं जुलमी राज्य आणि अजिजाने ब्रिटिशांविरुद्ध दिलेला असामान्य लढा या अग्निरेखा १८५७ या कादंबरीत लेखक काका विधाते यांनी चित्रीत केलेला आहे.
