Colonial Sunset

Description

It was 1961 and an air of expectancy and change engulfs Goa. Sensing that freedom from colonial rule is imminent some Goans decide to expedite the departure of the colonial power. The Portuguese realise that their hold on the territory is slipping away but struggle to come to terms with it. In the midst of the political tensions, a Portuguese solider and a Goan woman find love. Colonial Sunset written by Alexandre Moniz Barbosa is a fictional account of Goa’s liberation, where societal norms, political intrigue and ultimately freedom combine to thwart forbidden love, juxtaposed with another story occurring five decades later that is deeply connected with the past.
