Although most of us may know V.K. Rajwade as an ‘authority on history’ (*Itihasacharya*), Dr. Ketkar rightly observed that this represents only a small facet of his vast and multifaceted personality.
Rajwade was a researcher who unearthed volumes of source material on Maratha history; a profound thinker who penned extensive, analytical introductions to these sources; a devotee of scientific inquiry; a linguist who analyzed language and compiled etymological dictionaries; a scholar who examined the Vedas, historical texts, and *Puranas* with an objective, historical perspective; a visionary who sought to develop the field of sociology; a critic of the social conditions of his time.
Throughout his life, V. K. Rajwade faced adverse circumstances, yet his ideas remained remarkably incisive and logical. Professor S. S.
