This book is about Bajirao I who is worth of due respect after Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The character sketch of Bajirao is full of bravery and interesting. But due to many poets, novelists, writers and others, image of Rau i.e. Bajirao has been unnecessarily exaggerated and is known more about as Bajirao-Mastani couple.
Ever since Bajirao built the magnificent Shaniwarwada (in 1731), Pune gained a lot of importance which increased day by- day. If Bajirao didnt exist, Pune would have been as a Kasbe – Pune a small township like in British & Peshwa period.
Author M. S. Dixit has started the book with the introduction of Balaji Vishwanath Bhat, father of Bajirao, Shahu Maharaj & Balaji Vishwanath relations, transfer of post of Peshwe to Bajirao. Author also accounts the battles fought by Bajirao continuously and describes them in detail. Bajirao started with the victory at the Battle of palkhed, then Amzhera, Bundelkhand, Janjira battle, attack on Delhi, Battle of vasai which are described in this book. If Bajirao had lived a more 10 years he had, he would have undoubtedly defeated the Mughals. But in vain, he died in 1740.
Author also gives the various descriptions of Bajirao given by various people at that period. Other topics included the family life of Bajirao, Mastani & Bajirao relations and exact details of each incident of Bajirao between 1700 to 1740 character sketch of Bajirao is presented in an ideal way by author.
